Dr Stephanie Bourke

Dr Stephanie Bourke graduated from Trinity College in 1995. Following a period of working in Australia, she returned to Dublin and completed her basic training working largely in the areas of Community Psychiatry and General Hospital Psychiatry. She worked with an Addiction Service for a year before moving to the UK to complete her higher specialist training. In Hampshire she continued to train in the area of Community Psychiatry and also trained in Perinatal Psychiatry, a specialised area of psychiatry for mothers with mental health difficulties. She has worked as a Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry since her return to Ireland in 2007.

In accordance with the Medical Council guidelines, Dr Bourke sees patients on referral from their General Practitioner or treating consultant.

Service Description

Dr Bourke provides psychiatric assessment and care for adults over the age of 18 presenting with mental health difficulties. Any concerns about a persons psychological health can be assessed. Common presenting problems are depression, anxiety, substance misuse, difficulties with attention and concentration, and worrying thoughts. Dr Bourke does not provide an inpatient service but can refer patients to an appropriate hospital if required. Dr Bourke provides a liaison service for inpatients in the Blackrock Clinic and St Vincents Private Hospital.

What to Expect

Initial assessments last for one hour and follow up appointments are for 30 minutes. During an initial assessment a patient is asked about their symptoms, their background including a developmental history. This information will be used to make a diagnosis and develop a collaborative care plan. All consultations are held in the strictest confidence.

Qualifications

Dr Bourke is registered as a specialist in Adult Psychiatry with the Medical Council of Ireland, registration number: 19046. Dr Bourke is a Member of the College of Psychiatry of Ireland, and the Royal College of Psychiatrists in the UK.
